Level I

Level 1 training can be understood as a simple book. The learner may read text or view images, illustrations or charts. This passive form of learning requires the learner to interact only to move forward or backwards through the course. Such courses are appropriate for delivering bulk information quickly, such as new HR policies, changes in corporate structure or any information that does not directly affect daily work.

Level II

Level 2 training requires the learner to interact with the course more actively. Learners interact to reveal information through multiple-choice exercises, pop-ups or animations, with the added component of scenario-based learning. Such courses are appropriate for process training requirements, where the learner needs to learn to perform certain actions or sets of actions, or even familiarize themselves with components by visually exploring an interactive animation, such as industrial equipment maintenance courses.

Level III

Level 3 training increases the interactivity for the learner through text entry boxes or images to be manipulated. Branching logic can also present learners with a deeper understanding of the consequences of following a particular path. Such courses are useful for process training where a particular sequence of actions is important, or where the learner needs to learn the various options available in a particular process application, such as SAP training.

Level IV

Level 4 training is based on real-time interactivity. This creates a set of complex cues and responses that simulate real-life situations and work environments. An added component of social learning or collaborative learning adds the team-building aspect into the training programme. Such courses are used for complex training situations, where a team of learners need to learn to work together on a new process or a new system altogether, such as a training course for organizations switching from one ERP system to a completely different one.
